International Cycling Union president Pat McQuaid is fretting that his sport could become a travesty and a fraud. I read this in an AP story and wondered if this was a story from 10 years ago. Nope, it is current. Apparently McQuaid has not been keeping up on the news from his own sport over the last few years. Memo to McQuaid: Your sport is a travesty and a fraud.

As you ponder ways to remedy the situation I have one suggestion: One Offense = Lifetime Ban. Clean house and start promoting young athletes and hope some of them catch the imagination of the public. Rebuilding won’t be easy but it needs to be done. It is either that or permanently add “travesty and fraud” to the sport’s official name.
